FRI | APR 21    Invitation To Grow:         Small Faith Sharing Groups
—————————————————————————————————-

We are forming small groups at our parish and invite you to consider joining or leading one.

Sometimes it is hard to feel connected in a church of 6500 registered families. It can feel downright lonely. Yet,
Catholicism is all about community. We believe that each person matters and has something to contribute and share.
We want everyone to feel at home at St. Edward the Confessor. That is why we encourage you to join a small group.

A small group consists of three or more people who gather at a chosen time in a home, workplace,  other designated
place, or online.  A small group  comes together to talk about God and faith and Some groups study Scripture or watch
and discuss a video series. Other groups do service projects together. IT’S UP TO THE SMALL GROUP TO DECIDE
what to do at each meeting. The main purpose is to form companionship on the spiritual journey so that no one feels alone.

Any adults, any age – singles, married people (with children or without children), co-workers, neighbors, friends –
can join a small group.  You can choose a multi-generational group or a group specifically your age.

Ready? Find a group that fits you or start one of your own.

Do you think you want to start a small group or need more information?
Please email Liz Iorio in the Faith Formation Office: liorio@stedward.com.

SAT | APR 22    Invitation To Pray:         Labyrinth Prayer Garden
—————————————————————————————————-
As we read the prophetic books of the Old Testament, we find out how many times the people doubted
God and easily fell into great destruction and despair. Jeremiah and the other prophets continually
scolded them for their ego-centric ways. Walking the way of God, the prophets warn, means obedience
to an inner call – listening, keeping the hart open, and  being ever-vigilant of individual weakness. The
practice of walking as contemplative prayer today is not new!  Yet it seems so because we are not taught
how to use it as frequently as learning rote prayers  How unfortunate! Walking with the intention of being
quiet, opening up the senses and the heart and listening to God often frees the soul and softens the heart.
In a special way, embodiment of prayer gives a sense of completeness, that is, holiness, to ordinary life.
Come and walk the labyrinth on the bluff at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Dana Point!

FRI | APR 28    Invitation To Serve:         Joy Of Giving  @Parishpay
—————————————————————————————————-
As a parish, we embrace the challenge of stewardship. We understand that it is an invitation to share
intimately in the mission and ministry of Jesus and the Church. Our acceptance of this invitation leads
us through a process of growing deeper in our faith and in understanding that each of us was put on this
earth to make a difference. As Catholics, we are raised to be good stewards, and we want to teach our
children to also be good stewards. Financially supporting our parish community continues to feed our
spiritual need, as well as to give us the opportunity to reach out to the broader community–the poor,
the sick, and the hungry.

As a means of helping to fulfill your stewardship commitment, we recommend donating through ParishPay,
an automatic online giving program. ParishPay offers flexible options, allowing you to choose the date,
frequency, and method of donating. In addition to accepting the four major credit cards, VISA, MasterCard,
American Express, and Discover, ParishPay allows you to use a debit card or your checking, savings, or
brokerage account. We would like to see the families in our parish adopt this method of giving, as this helps
to make our parish forecasting and budgeting more reliable and accurate.

Use the following link to access your existing account, sign up for ParishPay, or make a donation even
if you do not have an account:

MON | MAY 8    Invitation To Pray:         Confessions Mon. & Sat.

—————————————————————————————————-
CONFESSIONS: Monday-6:00pm-7:30pm; Saturday-4:00pm-5:00pm; also by appointment.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the most unique and beautiful aspects of Catholicism. Jesus Christ,
in His abundant love and mercy, established the Sacrament of Confession, so that we as sinners can obtain
forgiveness for our sins and reconcile with God and the Church. The sacrament “washes us clean,” and
renews us in Christ. If you haven’t been to Confession in a while, the Catholic Church wants to welcome you
back, and invites you to participate in this beautiful sacrament of healing. Take a step in faith. You’ll be
surprised about how free you feel after taking part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. So many Catholics
describe incredible feelings of peace, joy, relief, and love that they never expected. Jesus is calling you to
experience His mercy in this way too.

TUES | MAY 9    Invitation To Elearning:         Moms In Prayer 8-9 am

—————————————————————————————————-
Moms in Prayer was started in 1984 by Fern Nichols, a mother who believed that if moms gathered
together to cry out to God for the needs and concerns of children and schools, that He would not
only hear those prayers, but answer them. She called together like-minded moms who gathered
each week to pray for their children and school, and thus began the first group  that has since grown
into a worldwide community of praying moms in every state and in more than 140 countries around
the world. Come join our school Moms in Prayer on Tuesday mornings when St. Edward the Confessor
School is in session, from 8:00 -9:00 a.m.

TUES | MAY 23    Invitation To Grow:         RCIA – Adult Initiation

—————————————————————————————————-
The Adult Catechumenate, also referred to as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), is a
community based, four phase process to nurture and guide adults who are seeking information and
ultimately initiation into the Catholic faith. The four phases of RCIA are Inquiry, Catechumenate,
Enlightenment, and Mystagogia. The length of time to complete the process depends on each
participant’s individual needs.  However, conversion and initiation usually revolve around the liturgical
calendar. The Easter season is the traditional time when adults are initiated into the faith through the
sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and reception of the Holy Eucharist. After adults have been
accepted into the Catechumenate, they are required to gather with the RCIA team once per week for
catechetical instruction and spiritual formation (2 hours on Tuesday evenings) and to join together
for communal prayer and reflection on the Scriptures at Sunday liturgy. Youth in grades 6-12 who
have not received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), are invited to
register in our Teen Catechumenate process. Classes take place in the evenings (TBA). These classes
parallel the RCIA calendar and initiation takes place at the Easter Vigil each year. Visit our Adult
Faith Formation section for more information.

WED | MAY 24    Invitation To Belong:         Families Of Nazareth

—————————————————————————————————-
Families of Nazareth is always open to new members who desire to cultivate and expand their interior
life and for those who want a deeper conversion of the heart. Inspired by the Gospel, we try to imitate
Jesus, who lived thirty years of His earthly life being educated by His Mother and St. Joseph as part
of the Holy Family in Nazareth. (see Luke 2:51) Our Families of Nazareth formation groups meet on
Wednesdays from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in the Church Meeting Room. As we travel on the interior journey
toward holiness, we learn to listen to the voice of God as He speaks to us in many ways through
Scripture, encyclicals, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, early Church fathers, silence, prayer and
spiritual readings. Retreats for development of spiritual life are held several times each year and are
led by priests and lay animators. One day Advent and Lenten retreats are regional. Summer retreats are
national. By investing yourself in this ministry, you will be transformed more deeply to recognize your
role as a disciple of Christ. The ministry is for those aspiring a communion of life with Christ through
Mary, being open to the Holy Spirit who helps us profit from our smallness and weakness, and leads
us to benefit more from the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus through Eucharist and the sacrament of
Penance. Visit the Official Website: www.familiesofnazareth.us

SAT | MAY 27    Invitation To Pray:         Outdoor Stations Of The Cross
—————————————————————————————————-

The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ’s last day on
Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His
condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station
to station. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ’s last day.
Specific prayers are recited, then the individual moves to the next station until all 14 are complete.

WED | MAY 31    Invitation To Serve:         Social Justice Ministry

—————————————————————————————————-
God calls each of us- through scripture and Church teachings-to care for one another, in particular,
for the vulnerable and marginalized-those without a voice themselves.  This call is not optional; it is
the teaching of Jesus himself.  We can respond to that call-to God’s love-with “two feet of love in action”
as described by the U.S. Bishops: 1.) Social justice activity-addressing structural causes of injustice, e.g.,
addressing the causes of poverty. 2.) Charitable works- short-term, emergency assistance, e.g., providing
meals for the homeless.   The Catholic Social Justice Ministry (CSJM) at St. Edward the Confessor seeks
to answer that call directly through activities and projects and to be a resource for the parish community.
Please join CSJM members as, together, we put God’s mission into action.  Ministry Contacts: Chuck

THUR | JUN 1    Invitation To Grow:         Living Catholic Marriage
—————————————————————————————————-
Marriage, a sacrament of the Church, needs the sustaining grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Living a faith-based marriage in the modern world can be a difficult challenge. To be open to
receiving God’s grace, married couples can benefit from a proactive and ongoing investment in
their relationship. Our marriage enrichment experience, called “Living Catholic Marriage,” is an
experience of like-to-like ministry: couples encouraging other couples by their shared experience
of living their marriage in faith. Marriage Enrichment offers a time and space for couples to focus
on each other and gather with other couples. Topics include communication in marriage, living
our Catholic faith, and meeting the challenges from being married and raising a family in the
modern world. Each topic is intended to affirm the ways we enrich our marriage and help us to
improve where we can do better. Our evenings provide safe opportunities for couples to grow in
their love for each other and increase joy in their marriage. Husbands and wives of all ages and
years married are welcome. Marriage Enrichment meets monthly on the first Thursday, 7:30 – 9:00 pm
in the Parish Room of St. Edward the Confessor School. To verify the next meeting, see the church
bulletin or simply contact us.

FRI | JUN 2    Invitation To Serve:         Bereavement Ministry
—————————————————————————————————-
The Bereavement Ministry at Saint Edward the Confessor and San Felipe de Jesús assists families of
the deceased in planning the funeral liturgy. Our ministers also prepare a program for the liturgy and,
if desired, the Bereavement Ministry reception team will assist in preparing a reception in Knight Hall.
Funeral liturgies are often scheduled on short notice so there are several teams who participate as they
are available. You may wish to volunteer for one or more of the following team functions. • Bereavement
Teams: consist of two ministers who meet with the family to help them select the readings and music,
discuss background information, and collect any additional information needed for the priest. We train
new members by having them observe and participate with experienced teams. • Assistant team leaders:
help to prepare the church for the liturgy and assist during the liturgy, especially when a large number
of people are expected, then put things away afterward. • Greeters: assist during the liturgy by welcoming
those attending, distributing the programs and assisting those attending to sign the guest book. No
extensive training is needed. •  Reception Team: prepare Knight Hall for a reception following a funeral
liturgy, prepare punch and other beverages, arrange family provided food on buffet tables and keep them
supplied, and  clean up. There are several teams who participate as they are available so the reception
team members are not needed for every reception. There are three reception team leaders to handle
individual receptions as needed. Ministry Contact: Sue Donley (949) 413-1862 sdonley6@hotmail.com

SUN | JUN 4    Invitation To Serve:         Respect Life Ministry
—————————————————————————————————-
Respect Life is rooted in the belief that: “Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves
the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its
sole end.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church). St. Edward the Confessor Parish works to live out this
teaching by defending life from conception to natural death. We support life centers and the life chain,
and work toward ending abortion, euthanasia, mercy killing, and capital punishment.
